This was the big push. It was late in the year and we were racing the clock against winter. I really didn’t want to do this in the snow. Finally, the site was ready, the lumber and trusses were onsite, and on the last weekend in October, several of us gathered and put the building up in two days.
I am so blessed to have good family and friends! This weekend was like an old-fashioned barn-raising, and we gathered, and we got it done. Framing was lead by my brother Terry, a master carpenter with decades of experience, and my cousin Roger, with nearly as much experience himself. Myself and my good friend Chris rounded out the carpenters. Another good friend Norm and my dad Ben completed the team. My ever-supportive wife Cathy and my mom Helen kept us fed and hydrated.
I laid out the wall plates on Friday night and made sure we were all good to go. Real early Saturday morning Terry showed up with his tools and we went over my plans. The rest of the guys were soon there and we got to it. By Saturday dinner time, the walls were up and braced and sheathing started. Sunday was another early start. By late afternoon, the roof was on and sheeted, most bracing was removed, and the site was tidied up… and it was starting to snow 🙂 We had made it!
Cathy got some great video shorts of the framing.
